Where is God (Allah)?

There have been endless debates on this topic due to its difficult nature. It is very interesting that after analyzing Quran we understand that most of the views are correct, even though they seem contradicting.

By the way is God a physical being?

Yes, and No, even though He has some physical description that does not mean He is made of something physical. He can interact with His creatures; He can be seen but this doesn’t mean that He is like something He creates. He is the most beautiful, perfect being. Here is an allegoric description of God:

GOD is the light of the heavens and the earth. The allegory of His light is that of a concave mirror behind a lamp that is placed inside a glass container. The glass container is like a bright, pearl-like star. The fuel thereof is supplied from a blessed oil-producing tree, that is neither eastern, nor western. Its oil is almost self-radiating; needs no fire to ignite it. Light upon light. GOD guides to His light whoever wills (to be guided). GOD thus cites the parables for the people. GOD is fully aware of all things.

Quran Al-Noor 24:35

First of all, since we know from other ayaat, "there is nothing like unto Him" (42:11), and "And there is none like unto Him." (112:4) makes very clear that any physical description of God will be just allegorical. As one may expect, in this verse, while explaining "God's Light example", it is clearly stated by using the word "ka," (which means "like" or "as if"), that this is a metaphorical description. Since there are multiple intellectual layers and depths in this verse, we will go with what we understand. God is the source of all information and guidance on earth and everywhere. His observed supraphysical being's reducted description is like shining infinite number of bright orange stars that covered by shiny glass sphere. Those star like shiny spheres' light energy doesnt come from somewhere, it is His innate property. it is innerworking has no need from outside help, it is radiation does not reduce it is innercore resources, it is perfectly balanced infinitely. We know from other ayat that when we'll meet our Lord we will be able to see Him. And also we know that at that time Earth and other planetary system (like 4 paradise planets and others) will be illuminated with God's light literally. In another level God promise that people who genuinely want to be guided will be guided to his light i.e. enlightened by God.

The Originator [is He] of the heavens and the earth. He has given you mates of your own kind just as [He has willed that] among the beasts [there be] mates - to multiply you thereby: [but] there is nothing like unto Him, and He alone is all-hearing, all-seeing.

Quran Al-Shoora 42:11

He can move relative to his creation in a physical manner but He is beyond any limitation of the created universes.

Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, and then established Himself above the multiverse’s outer arc (*); He throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (He created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by His command; surely His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds/systems.

Quran Al Araf 7:54

(*) Universe has always used in plural form in Quran. Due to the nature of the word starting with (uni- ) we preferred to use the word multiverse which gives a better translation. In another ayah Quran hints that their structure is like atmosphere, spherical layers over layers.

He governs all that exists, from multiverse to the earth; and in the end all shall ascend unto Him [for judgment] on a Day the length whereof will be [like] a thousand years of your reckoning.

Quran Al-Sajdah 32:5

He is the One Who has created the heavens and earth in six stages, and is established on the Throne of His Almightiness of Supreme Control. He knows all that enters the earth and all that comes out of it, and all that descends from the sky, and all that ascends therein. And He is with you wherever you may be. God is Seer of what you do.

Quran Al-Hadeed 57:4

This verse gives a different reference for the place of God by saying “And He is with you wherever you may be”. We know that God is outside of the multiverse from other verses and now it says God is with you wherever you go. And even with the following verse our closeness to our Creator is unbelievable:

We created the human, and we know what he whispers to himself. We are closer to him than his jugular vein.

Quran Qaf 50:16

For, unto God belongs all that is in multiverse and all that is on earth; and, indeed, God encompasses everything.

Quran Al-Nisa 4:126

If we think of the multiverse as bubbles inside the biggest bubble which is arch of the Creator, it is relatively easy to imagine how God encompasses everything. God created multiverse in such structure even though He is unimaginably far away from us yet at the same time he is inside and around us. He can exert his command on us and He can also hear and see us. For a better understanding we may give an over simplified analogy to this situation. Let’s say multiverse is a Photoshop canvas, the transparent background is God in multiverse and all the creations are other layers on this canvas. Software, hardware whatever it exists beyond this canvas is absolute God and only God. Therefore, both description that says God is outside the Canvas is true still whoever says God is with us (inside canvas) is true as well since He infused everywhere as the transparent background. This analogy is our interpretation of these verses and it may be wrong but what is for sure is God by his knowledge and limitless capabilities even though He is far away, He is somehow just right here. If we think of our technology and our capability to create a holographic telepresence, real remote presence must be way easy for the Creator of everything and every scientific knowledge.

God is Who has created many universe and many earths as well. His command descends between them, that you may know that God is capable of all things, and that God has encompassed all things with His knowledge.

Quran Al-Talaq 65:12
